Week 4 Update – Sensor Fusion & Connectivity

Technical Breakthroughs

  • Improved Connectivity: Fixed a critical limitation in our device’s Bluetooth connectivity, allowing all sensor data to flow properly to the mobile app.
  • Enhanced Data Efficiency: Switched from text-based to binary data transmission between the device and app, dramatically improving performance and battery life.
  • Direction Detection Upgrade: Implemented a “steadiness” feature that prevents false readings when determining movement direction, making the interface more intuitive and reliable.

Power & Performance

  • Battery Optimization: Identified battery life issues while maintaining connectivity, including adjustments to transmission power and connection frequency.
  • Bug Fixes: Resolved timing issues in the display system and corrected coding errors that were affecting system stability.

Next Steps

  • Integrating music functionality using FMOD Studio into the application
  • Start field testing to validate all system improvements
  • Analyzing data from our dual-sensor approach (IMU and Hall effect sensors) to determine the optimal method for speed and timing measurements
